Introduction
Whilst blogging is not a new concept to me, as I regularly blog within my organisational boundaries about products, services, capabilities and technologies, I find myself in the position of a recent promotion to Technical Lead and will begin in the role, in a new domain for me, in May 2021.
I’d like to share what I can over the coming months and years about the transition from being a senior software engineer into a technical lead. Acting not only as a diary for myself to reflect on what I fail, succeed and consequently learn but also to provide insight for aspiring future leaders.
No doubt my content will veer all over the place from scientific and technological advances related to buzzwordy topics of Cloud, Big Data, APIs and Agile but also into specialised areas of global remote sensing systems. Additionally, I might wander into areas under the ‘leadership and management’ umbrella and probably some careers advice for the aspiring software engineer too; as I start to feel more confident in my own career choices and can assess the impact of career decisions over the last 5 years in particular.
If one person reads something I’ve written and it fixes an issue they were trying to solve, clarifies a complicated technology, helps to identify career options or just puts a smile on their face then it’ll have been worth it, let’s see what happens!
